This fall, Fabula(b) will create a university design guide and student-led contributions to Big Apple 80s, a mobile app of geolocated spatial audio encounters that explore the history of Music Television (MTV). Big Apple 80s is part of my ongoing collaboration with the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, inspired by the 40th anniversary of MTV and the NYPL’s recent acquisition of archives from two central figures in MTV’s early history. The project includes a live event in New York City as well as an app of crowd-sourced contributions from across the globe. As a theoretical project, Big Apple 80s interrogates crowd-sourced performance historiography and the peripatetic ototheatre of interactive audio tours.
